Oswego, NY – The Golden Eagles went 2-0 on Saturday to finish out their slate at the Oswego State Invitational this weekend. They defeated SUNY Canton, 3-1, and Pitt-Bradford, 3-2, to improve to 7-6 overall on the season.
Brockport 3, Canton 1 – Match 1 Final
The Golden Eagles pulled off the reverse sweep after falling to Canton, 25-19, in the first set. Brockport bounced back in a big way with three straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-8, and 25-14.
Alexis Sison finished with 12 kills (team-high), two aces, and 17 digs in a balanced performance.
Alenna Williamson (11) and
Maddy Howell (10) both had double-digit kills as well.
Brockport racked up 19 aces on the serve in this matchup.
Ana Parella had six aces to lead the effort, with
Luba Butcher (5),
Kaylee Dickerson-Holly (3),
Alexis Sison (2),
Kaitlyn Jewett (2), and
Gianna Felipe (1) all contributed.
Setters
Kaitlyn Jewett and
Ava Baty set the hitters up consistently. Jewett totaled 20 assists and Baty had 14 in the match.
Gianna Felipe led the defensive effort with 20 digs, while Sison had 17 and
Grace Ippoliti had 10. Howell came up with six block assists and Baty was credited with four in the battle.
Brockport 3, Pitt-Bradford 2 – Match 2 Final
In the second and final match of the day, Brockport dug deep to come from behind 2-0 to win the match 3-2. Pitt-Bradford took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-13. The Golden Eagles then rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 25-14, 27-25, and 16-14.
Again it was
Alexis Sison leading the offensive attack with 16 kills to pace the squad.
Madisen Jones got involved with 10 kills in the win. Assists came from
Kaitlyn Jewett (28) and
Ava Baty (12).
Jewett also found a spot for three service aces, while
Gianna Felipe had two and Sison had one ace.
A group of four Golden Eagles registered double-digit digs in the win. Felipe led the team with 19, Sison had 18, Jewett finished with 11, and
Grace Ippoliti had 10.
Lauren Emke had the team's lone solo block to go with her two assisted blocks in the middle.
Luba Butcher was credited with three block assists. Sison had two assisted blocks and Parella had one.
The Golden Eagles will be home next Saturday for their 10am Alumni Game to celebrate Homecoming Weekend. They open up E8 play on the road at St. John Fisher on Friday, October 3
rd for a 6pm start.
