Brockport, NY- The Brockport women's tennis team will head to Nazareth to take on the Golden Flyers on Friday, September 26th, at 4 p.m., before heading to Alfred on Saturday, September 27th, at 1 p.m. Â
Last Outing: The Golden Eagles are coming off a 5-2 loss to St. John Fisher on Friday, September 19th. Brockport fell to 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in Empire 8 play following the loss.Â
Brockport started the day strong, sweeping all three doubles matches to earn the first point. The first doubles team of Cara Vasile and Olivia Raschiatore won 6-2, followed by Leah Banes and Olivia Chiu with an equally impressive 6-2 victory. The third doubles team of Gianna Masker and Erin McMichael sealed the sweep with a 6-1 win. The Golden Eagles were only able to secure one point in singles play, as Gianna Masker was able to secure a 6-1, 6-2 victory in sixth singles.
Freshman Standout: Through her first five matches, freshman Gianna Masker has made an impact to begin her Brockport career. Masker has posted a strong 5-3 overall record, including an excellent 3-1 mark in doubles play. The Grand Island, NY native holds an undefeated 2-0 record alongside Kathleen Rogers in third doubles outings.
Doubles Dominance: Holding a 9-6 record as a squad in doubles play, Olivia Raschiatore and Cara Vasile have set the tone for the Golden Eagles to begin the season. Brockport's top doubles pairing has been excellent in first doubles action, posting an undefeated 3-0 mark. Raschiatore and Vasile have been dominant throughout, winning by a combined margin of 18-3, including the pair's 6-0 shutout victory against Russell Sage.
Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers stand at 2-2 overall, with a 1-1 record in conference play. They are coming off a 6-1 win against Cortland on Monday. Brockport will look to secure its first head-to-head victory against Nazareth since 2019, which resulted in a 7-2 win.
Scouting Alfred: The Saxons have jumped out to a strong 5-2 start with a 2-1 record in Empire 8 play, most recently falling to Hartwick on the road, 7-0. The Golden Eagles have won four of the last six head-to-head matchups, including a 5-2 win in last year's meeting. Â
