Field Hockey Drops Defensive Showdown With Oswego, 1-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Field Hockey team came up short at home against Oswego State, 1-0, on Wednesday, September 24th. The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-3 on the season following the loss.

The first half would prove to be a defensive stalemate, with both teams recording just one shot each in the first 30 minutes. The Lakers threatened to take a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Katelynn Banning would keep the scoreless tie.

The Golden Eagles would generate two penalty corner opportunities in the second period, but neither team would develop a scoring chance in the quarter.

Entering the second half with a scoreless tie, Brockport would generate its first scoring chance of the evening. Cassidy Pado would threaten to break the draw, but Oswego goalie Sam Krauthiem would make the first of her four saves of the game to keep the game tied at 0-0 entering the final frame.

The fourth quarter would see both offenses come alive, with Brockport (6) and Oswego (5) combining for 11 shots in the period. Oswego State would waste little time scoring in the fourth, with Natalie Shields finding the back of the net after back-to-back Banning saves in the opening minute.

Despite strong scoring chances from Terralyn McLaughlinAllison Greene, and Emily Nestor, the Green and Gold were unable to break through, as Oswego escaped with a 1-0 victory.

Despite holding an 8-7 shots advantage, the Lakers would finish with a 5-4 edge in the shots on goal department. Brockport would be unable to capitalize on a 7-6 edge,

Cassidy Pado led all Golden Eagles with three shots on the afternoon.

Katelynn Banning (L, 0-2) was strong in defeat, making four saves across 60 minutes of game action.
