Women's Basketball Tripped Up at Home Against Nazareth, 75-65

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Women's Basketball team was defeated at home by Nazareth, 75-65, on Saturday, January 10th, The Golden Eagles dropped to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in Empire 8 play.

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste (2REB, 2AST) and Mandy Brink (3 STL) led the Brockport scoring attack with 15 points each, leading the squad in minutes played.

Brianna Carey had a strong all-around day for Brockport, leading the Green and Gold with six rebounds and five steals while adding four points and three assists.

Both defenses commanded the opening ten minutes, with each team shooting under 40% in the first quarter. The Golden Flyers would get the last laugh in the first, drilling a three-pointer late to take a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.

Despite mirroring their first quarter shooting (25%), Brockport would lean on its defense and three point shooting to take a two point lead into halftime. Two Jackie Kozakiewicz three point makes and a late Mandy Brink free throw would give Brockport a 29-27 edge entering halftime. In addition to her excellent defense, Kozakiewicz added a season high 11 points with three long-range makes off the bench in a strong effort.

The Golden Flyers offense emerged following the halftime break, scoring 48 second half points to take complete control of the contest. Despite posting their best offensive quarter of the contest (20 points), 24 Nazareth third quarter points gave the visitors a two point lead entering the final frame.

The Golden Eagles would be unable to regain the lead in the fourth, surrendering 24 points in the final 10 minutes in the squads first conference loss of the season. Despite winning the turnover battle (24-19), subpar shooting would prove to be the difference in this competitive conference contest.

Peyton Maneri was active defensively, snatching a game-high five steals with seven points and five assists.

Up Next: Brockport will head to Keuka College for conference play on Tuesday, January 13th at 3 PM.
