Balanced Attack Leads Women's Basketball Past St. John Fisher, 78-67

BROCKPORT, NY- The Brockport Women's Basketball team secured a key conference win, defeating the visiting St. John Fisher Cardinals, 78-67, on Friday, January 9th. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play following the victory. 

Stephanie Jean-Baptiste did it all for Brockport in a dynamic effort. Jean-Baptiste finished with a team-high 16 points and four steals, adding five rebounds and four assists in a excellent outing for the Green and Gold. 

Mandy Brink provided a efficient outing for the Golden Eagles, scoring 14 points on 50% shooting (5-10) and two-of-three shooting from three point range. Brink added eight rebounds and two assists in a well-rounded display.

Brockport would impose their will early, doubling up St. John Fisher 32-16 across the first ten minutes. The Golden Eagles would enjoy excellent shooting splits in the first, going 13-24 (54.17%) from the floor and a strong 4-9 (44.44%) from beyond the arc. Brockport's defense would force 10 Cardinal turnovers in the first quarter, with SJB, Jackie Kozakiewicz, Ava Howie, Addy VanDewater, and Lila Lovgren all recording steals.

The second quarter would prove to be a defensive stalemate, with neither team finding a groove offensively. Claire Turner's layup with 1:42 left in the quarter would give Brockport a 22 point lead, but a 6-0 St. John Fisher would cut Brockport's lead to 16 entering halftime. Turner would have a excellent day for Brockport, leading the squad with 11 rebounds, adding eight points and a game-high three blocks.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Cardinals would begin to mount a comeback, cutting the Brockport lead to eight with just over a minute remaining the quarter. The Golden Eagles would have a timely response, scoring the final six points of the quarter to extend the lead to 14 entering the final frame.

In the final 10 minutes, the Green and Gold would close out the contest. In the final two minutes, clutch free throws from Mandy Brink and a Lila Lovgren three-pointer would prove to be the dagger, leading Brockport to the 11 point victory. 

Peyton Maneri shined for Brockport, rounding out the top scorers with 12 points (4-4 FT) with a game high five assists in a strong effort. Eight Golden Eagles would finish with five points or more, with 10 Brockport players finishing with a made field goal.
