Wrestling Opens Up 2026 With E8 Championships

Brockport, NY – The wrestling team is set to kick of the year with the Empire 8 Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships at St. John Fisher University on Saturday, January 10th at 10am.

Last Time Out – Back on November 22nd, the team traveled to Syracuse, NY, for the New York State Collegiate Championships, where they showed out with a third-place finish with 166.5 points. 

Mason Mangialino had an impressive show out at 149, taking first and scoring 20.5 points. Mangialino started the day with a win by fall (6:01), a tech fall win (15-0) and a major decision win (22-8). Mangialino took the 4-0 decision win in the semifinals and fought for a 6-4 decision win in the 1st place match, also earning him Empire 8 Wrestler of the Week. 

At 184, Avery Bustamante put up a fight for second place and 19.5 points for the Golden Eagles. Bustamante started strong with a 14-3 major decision win, a win by fall at 2:38, and a 20-5 tech fall win. Bustmante finished the day in the semifinal round with a 23-13 major decision victory. 

Trevor Middendorf dominated in the 125 bout, scoring 19 team points. Middendorf had a tech fall win (21-6), win by fall (2:12), and a tech fall win (21-5). In the semifinal round, Middendorf had a close 13-12 decision win. 

Tyler Rossini showed out with a second-place finish, earning 18.5 points. Rossini won by a 13-2 major decision, a 19-2 tech fall, a fall 5:55 into the match, and a 6-2 decision in the semifinal match of the 157lb division. 

Daniel O' Dea placed fifth in the 141 bout, contributing 17 points to the team after two strong wins by fall 6:05 into the match and at 0:58. O' Dea added a win by fall at 1:22, a 9-8 decision, and by medical forfeit in the 5th place match. 

In the 133lb division, Kolton Kelley showed out with a second-place finish and earned 16 points. Kelley won by fall 1:26 into the match, won by a 2-1 decision, and won by a 13-2 major decision in the semifinal round. 

Ryan Cieslinski clinched a third-place finish, good for 14.5 points. Cieslinksi won by a major decision (19-7), a decision (11-5), and finished out the day with a medical forfeit win in the 3rd place match. 

Up Next – The Golden Eagles will be home for the first time this season to host Niagara County Community College on Saturday, January 17th at 12pm.
