Brockport, NY – Brockport linebacker
Austyn Gollnitz was named the Empire 8 Football Defensive Player of the Week on Monday following a game-defining performance in the Golden Eagles' 24-14 victory over Alfred State. This marks Gollnitz's second Defensive Player of the Week selection of the season.
Gollnitz anchored a dominant defensive effort that held Alfred State scoreless in the second half, limiting the Pioneers to just 174 total offensive yards and 24 net rushing yards. He finished the afternoon with five total tackles (three solo), a 6-yard sack, a quarterback hurry, and the decisive play in the fourth quarter.
With the game deadlocked at 14-14 early in the fourth quarter, Gollnitz jumped a pass route and intercepted a pass at the Alfred State 19-yard line, returning it 19 yards for a touchdown to break the tie and spark Brockport's winning surge.
The Golden Eagles' defense racked up six total sacks and 10 tackles for loss on the afternoon.
With the win, Brockport improves to 5-1 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 3-0. Gollnitz and the Golden Eagles will return back home to Bob Boozer Field to host SUNY Morrisville for their Senior Day on Saturday, October 24th, for a 12 PM kickoff.
