BROCKPORT, NY — Following a gritty postseason opening-round victory, the No. 3 seed SUNY Brockport field hockey team hits the road to take on No. 2 seed Hartwick in the Empire 8 Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, November 4th, at 2 p.m.
Empire 8 Quarterfinals Win
Brockport punched its ticket to the semifinal round with a hard-fought 1-0 shutout victory over No. 6 seed Utica on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Linda Arena Field. The postseason win improved the Golden Eagles to 13-4 overall and marked a historic milestone for the program, as Head Coach
Krista Archambeau secured her first career postseason victory.
Following a scoreless first half characterized by stellar defensive play from both sides, Brockport broke the deadlock early in the third quarter.
Penelope Schalck delivered the decisive tally at the 35:06 mark, converting a clutch penalty stroke to put the Green and Gold ahead 1-0. That lone goal proved to be all the defense required, as freshman goalkeeper
Julia Nieboer turned away all four shots on target over 60 minutes to record a complete-game shutout. Brockport finished with a 12-9 advantage in total shots and a 10-6 edge in penalty corners.
Nieboer Earns Second Straight E8 Defensive Weekly Honor
Freshman goalkeeper
Julia Nieboer was named the Empire 8 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, November 3rd, marking her second consecutive weekly conference accolade.
Nieboer continued her exceptional rookie campaign between the pipes by posting back-to-back complete-game shutouts to close out the regular season and open the playoffs. She began her award-winning stretch by stopping all four shots faced in a 5-0 regular-season finale shutout at Nazareth, before following it up with another flawless four-save performance across 60 minutes to secure Saturday's 1-0 quarterfinal win over Utica.
Scouting Hartwick
The Hawks enter E8 postseason play strong, having won their last four matchups and wrapping up the regular season with a 2-1 victory over Utica. Earlier this year, Hartwick snapped Brockport's four-game win streak with a 4-1 decision. The two programs previously met in Empire 8 Tournament play during the 2024 postseason, where Brockport dropped a 2-0 result in the first round, and the Golden Eagles look to flip the script on Wednesday.
Up Next: The winner of Wednesday's semifinal showdown will advance to the Empire 8 Tournament Championship game, scheduled for Saturday, November 7th.
