Brockport, NY – On Tuesday night, the Brockport men's basketball team took down Geneseo in an overtime thriller at The Vlog, 83-77. With the victory, the Golden Eagles move to 9-11 overall with a 5-6 mark in Empire 8 play.
In front of the home crowd, Brockport saw a balanced scoring effort from the lineup with five players in double figures.
Jacob Oka led the way with a near double-double, finishing with 16 points and nine boards. Hitting five shots from beyond the arc,
Ajani Flemming added 15 points.
Omar White stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, five boards, five assists, and four blocks.
Camron Dyer contributed all over as well with 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block.
The reigning Empire 8 Rookie of the Week,
Pharell Aybar was key in the contest. Playing 44 minutes, he totaled 13 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and had just one turnover as the team's primary ballhandler.
Geneseo, coming into the game at 8-2 in conference play, would jump out to an early lead. An early string of makes from long range gave the Knights a 16-8 lead before the Golden Eagles responded. Once Brockport closed the gap, the score remained close the rest of the way.
A layup before the horn at halftime would give Geneseo a 42-40 lead at the break. To start the second half, Brockport ended up down by eight once again early on at 54-46. A series of defensive stops leading to baskets helped tie the game up at 61-61.
Tied at 70-70 with just 1:36 left in regulation, the Knights capitalized on some foul shots to break the tie. Geneseo's Josh Garelle knocked down a pair of free throws to give the visiting team a 2-point lead. The following possession for Brockport,

Brockport outscored Geneseo, 11-5, in overtime to pull out the big win at home. Both
Pharell Aybar and
Jack Clancy made good on a pair of free throws in the final minute to seal the deal.
The Golden Eagles have now won four of the last five E8 matchups, and have moved into the seventh spot in the conference standings. They play another pair of crucial contests this weekend on the road. Brockport heads to Nazareth on Friday for a 7:30pm tip-off, before facing St. John Fisher on Saturday at 4pm.
