Brockport Hits Season-High 15 Triples in Road Win Over Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY – Riding the momentum of a recent overtime thriller, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team continued its winning ways on Friday night, securing a decisive 81-66 victory over Nazareth University. The Golden Eagles (10-11, 6-6 E8) utilized a high-powered first half and dominant perimeter shooting to pull away from the Golden Flyers at the Robert A. Kidera Gym.

Scoring Runs and Perimeter Precision Secure Road Win

Brockport established control early through a series of clinical scoring runs, jumping out to a 46-40 halftime lead fueled by a blistering 66.67% shooting performance from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes. After a back-and-forth opening, the Golden Eagles orchestrated a critical 12-2 run midway through the first half. Spanning nearly four minutes, the surge was ignited by three consecutive triples from Christian Amica, transforming a narrow 12-12 tie into a 21-14 advantage.

The Green and Gold maintained their composure through eight lead changes, effectively putting the game away with a dominant second-half stretch. Leading 51-49 with 13:31 remaining, Brockport locked in defensively to spark an 11-3 run, capped by a Jacob Oka layup that helped extend the lead back to double digits. The lead eventually swelled to a game-high 18 points (81-63) following an Ajani Flemming three-pointer with just 1:06 left on the clock.

The difference-maker in the contest was Brockport's ability to maintain defensive pressure and dominate the glass. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Nazareth 39-30 and hounded the Golden Flyers into 13 turnovers. Brockport's perimeter defense was equally sharp in the second half, holding Nazareth to just 4-of-17 (23.53%) from three-point range to seal the road victory.

Statistical Leaders

Career-defining performances and consistent veteran leadership fueled the Golden Eagles' victory:
  • Ajani Flemming delivered a career-high performance, leading all scorers with 21 points. Flemming was unconscious from long distance, connecting on 7-of-13 attempts from beyond the arc, marking the most three-pointers made by a Golden Eagle in a single game this season. He added three steals and a rebound in his 36 minutes of action.
  • Jacob Oka continued his dominant stretch of play, matching the team-high with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-11 (72.7%) shooting from the floor. This performance marked Oka's fifth game of the season with 20 or more points and his third consecutive contest scoring at least 15. He anchored the interior with five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
  • Christian Amica provided a massive lift off the bench, contributing 15 points in just 19 minutes. Amica was a perfect 3-of-5 from deep and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
  • Pharell Aybar orchestrated the offense with poise, logging eight points and a team-high five assists. Aybar's floor leadership was evident as he secured six rebounds and a block while playing 32 minutes as the primary ball-handler.
  • Camron Dyer and Omar White were instrumental in the rebounding effort. White hauled in a team-high eight rebounds to go along with four points and two steals, while Dyer provided eight points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will look to keep the streak alive as they conclude their Rochester road trip tomorrow afternoon. Brockport heads to St. John Fisher University on Saturday, February 7th, for another critical Empire 8 clash, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
