Men's Basketball Earns Fourth Straight Win Against St John Fisher, 94-85

PITTSFORD, NY – Behind a career-best performance from Pharell Aybar, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team extended their winning streak to four games with a 94-85 victory over St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (11-11, 7-6) utilized a dominant first-half offensive display to seize control early and fend off the Cardinals at Varsity Gym.

Total Control from the Tip

There were no lead changes or ties in this matchup, as Brockport led from start to finish. The Golden Eagles ignited the game with a stifling 8-0 scoring run in the opening minutes. Omar White set the tone just seconds in with a fast break dunk at the 19:36 mark, followed by back-to-back interior buckets from Cameron Pownall and Jacob Oka to silence the home crowd.

The Green and Gold completely dictated the tempo in the first period, shooting a blistering 60.0% (18-30) from the floor. This offensive clinic was bolstered by elite efficiency from the perimeter and the charity stripe in the first half, where the team shot 50.0% (4-8) from deep and a near-perfect 91.7% (11-12) from the free-throw line.

The highlight of the opening frame came at the 2:16 mark when Pownall converted a layup to give Brockport its largest lead of the night at 13 points (V13). While Fisher attempted to chip away, the Golden Eagles' relentless defense forced 19 Cardinal turnovers while committing only 10 themselves. This discipline resulted in 31 points off turnovers, ensuring the Cardinals never saw the lead.

Stars of the Night

Pharell Aybar had a night to remember, dropping a career-high 29 points to lead all scorers. Aybar was the engine of the offense, shooting 12-of-19 from the field, marking the most field goals made by a Golden Eagle this season. He added five rebounds, three assists, and three blocks to his commanding 37-minute performance.

Jacob Oka flirted with a triple-double, putting together one of his most complete games following his solid outing against Nazareth. Oka anchored the interior with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and a game-high 9 assists, while adding 4 steals and 2 blocks to frustrate the Fisher offense.

Camron Dyer provided a major spark, finishing with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Ajani Flemming was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line to finish with 9 points, while Omar White and Christian Amica each contributed 9 points to the balanced attack. Cameron Pownall remained perfect on the night, shooting 4-of-4 for 8 points in limited action.

Brockport's collective effort at the line was a season highlight, finishing 20-of-25 (80.0%) to ice the game in the final minutes.
