SUNY Brockport Athletics has been recognized nationally for its commitment to community engagement, earning third place in the Special Olympics Activity Category in the National Association of Division III Athletics Administrators Community Service Awards.
The annual awards program highlights Division III institutions that demonstrate outstanding leadership and service within their campus and surrounding communities.
"These awards celebrate the incredible impact Division III programs and administrators have on their campuses and communities," said Laura Mooney. "NADIIIAA is proud to honor these institutions and individuals for their commitment to service and leadership."
Award recipients were formally recognized during the NADIIIAA reception at the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, January 15.
SUNY Brockport received the honor for hosting the 2025 Genesee Region MCSPAC West Track & Field Event, part of the department's longstanding partnership with the Special Olympics.
Held in May 2025, the event welcomed hundreds of student-athletes to campus from several local school districts, including Brockport, Hilton, Spencerport, and Gates Chili. The competition took place at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium, where participants were greeted by a large group of Brockport student volunteers.
The celebration began with an opening ceremony parade led by the Brockport Central School District Marching Band, creating a memorable atmosphere for the visiting athletes and their supporters.
SUNY Brockport Athletics has maintained a strong partnership with the Special Olympics program for many years, and the recognition from NADIIIAA highlights the department's ongoing commitment to service, inclusion, and community engagement.
Through events like the Genesee Region Track & Field competition, Brockport continues to provide meaningful opportunities for student-athletes, volunteers, and community members to come together in celebration of sport and achievement.
