Brockport, NY – This Sunday will mark the start of the 2026 campaign for the Brockport softball program, as the Golden Eagles head south to Florida for some spring training. Competing once again at The Spring Games, Brockport's season begins Sunday with games against Ripon (2:30pm) and UW La Crosse (4:45pm).

Quick 2025 Recap: Brockport finished last season on the outside looking in, missing the Empire 8 Championship Tournament in year two with the conference. The team went on to record a 6-16 mark in conference play, helping lead to a 14-22 record overall for the year. As a group, the Golden Eagles batted .313 with a .371 on-base percentage, and a .415 slugging percentage for the season in 2025.
Coach Wheat Heading into Year 3: Head Coach
Mary Karen Wheat is starting her third season leading the program, after taking over in 2023. In her first two seasons at the helm, Wheat has led the Golden Eagles to an increase in wins from 2023 to 2024 (5 to 8) and 2024 to 2025 (8 to 14), marking strong improvement within the program. Brockport's 14 wins in 2025 marked the most in a single season since 2019. Last year Coach Wheat also mentored her first pair of All-Conference selections (
Olivia Simone &
Teresa Cotty) and one all-region selection (
Olivia Simone) since taking over the program.
E8 Players to Watch: Heading into the season, the Empire 8 recognized
Aubrey Ennis and
Colleen Davis as Brockport's Players to Watch in the conference this softball season. Davis finished her debut season last year with six wins across 14 starts, 24 appearances and 10 complete games. She threw two shutouts and had two saves while pitching exactly 100 innings as a freshman. Ennis finished the 2025 season with a .409 batting average, .509 slugging percentage and a .422 on base percentage. On 45 hits, she led the team with 30 runs batted in as a junior.
Returning to the Field: The Golden Eagles are returning 13 players in 2026 who played last season, looking to provide valuable experience to the lineup. The full list of returners consists of

Meet the New Teammates: To go with a solid collection of returners, Brockport reloads the roster with eight new additions to the squad. The Golden Eagles add transfers
Julia Hill,
Drew Ernewein, and
Maeve Brannigan. Brockport also brought in a freshman class that includes
Makenna Hart,
Emily Harrington,
Isabella Parente, Liana DeValer, and
Lila Lovgren. Keep an eye out for which newcomers will make an immediate impact in the lineup.
Last Year in Florida: During Brockport's appearance at The Spring Games in 2025, the squad went 6-4 through 10 games played in Florida. The Golden Eagles started the trip 1-4, but then got hot to finish out the week with five straight wins. During the stretch of wins down south, Brockport scored 10 or more runs in four consecutive games.
Up Next: After opening day on Sunday, Brockport is back in action for two more contests on Monday. First up is Concordia University (TX) at 10am and then the team takes on New England at 12:30pm.
