Brockport, NY – The women's lacrosse team had a day on home turf, fighting hard for yet another overtime victory, 11-10 over the Oneonta Red Dragons.
It was a high-scoring first quarter for Oneonta as they opened the scoring book for the matchup with a quick goal to the back of the net, until
Emily Schiffer scored one of her own off a free position shot. Oneonta netted another shortly after, and
Karaline McCarthy cut the short lead with an assist from
Karaline McCarthy. The Red Dragons kept a strong offensive game as they found the back of the net four more times before time ran out.
With Oneonta opening the second quarter with a quick goal, the Golden Eagles found their momentum, responding with four unanswered.
Hailey Lewkovich snuck the first in, followed by
Alivia Cross earning a free position shot and scoring. The Ladybros earned two man-up opportunities, where
Tristan Davis and
Hailey Lewkovich took advantage, each netting a rocket to close out the first half down just one score.
Coming back from the halftime break, it was a quiet third quarter until
Hailey Lewkovich added another to her total from
Karaline McCarthy to tie up the game.
Amanda Evans and
Karaline McCarthy both capitalized on a pair of man-up opportunities, with McCarthy's goal coming from
Emily Schiffer to close out the third quarter.
The Red Dragons didn't waste time in the last quarter to halt Brockport's lead, making three back-to-back goals to take the one-score lead. With just 49 seconds left,
Tristan Davis earned a free position shot, where she plowed through the defense, sending the competition into overtime.
In the sudden victory period, it didn't take long for
Hailey Lewkovich to find the back of the net from
Karaline McCarthy, leading Brockport to take the hard-fought victory.
Offensive Threats –
Hailey Lewkovich had a day, leading the squad in goals with four from just five shots.
Karaline McCarthy also racked up the points with four off of two goals and two assists.
Tristan Davis added two goals and an assist for three points, and
Emily Schiffer had a goal and an assist for two points.
Arianna Reed defended in goal for the Golden Eagles, facing 18 shots and making eight saves to secure the win.
