Brockport Softball Prepares for Busy Slate of Games

Brockport, NY – The Brockport softball team is coming up on a busy stretch of games back north after the trip to Florida for spring break. The Golden Eagles get to the action with doubleheaders on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Who/What/When/Where: The slate begins on Sunday, March 29th at Elmira for the first taste of E8 play. Brockport travels for a 1pm start to the conference doubleheader. Monday marks the home opener for the squad, as the Golden Eagles host Buffalo State for a 3pm start to the set. To finish off the trio of doubleheaders, Brockport heads to Oswego State on Tuesday for a 3pm start.

Ready for E8 Play: This weekend gets conference play going for the Golden Eagles in year two as a member of the Empire 8. They are looking for their first program appearance in the postseason since making the switch from the SUNYAC. Brockport finished conference play 6-16 last season.

Quick Florida Recap: Playing eight of the originally scheduled 10 games down south, Brockport finished the spring break trip 2-6 overall. After starting with a pair of losses, the team toughed out a 5-4 win over UW-River Falls. One of the highlights was Aurora Sabins' walk-off single as a pinch-hitter against Plattsburgh State. The clutch RBI lifted Brockport to its 1-0 victory. The trip came to an end following three close losses. Emily Harrington provided another big moment for the team with her 3-run home run against Wellesley.

Early Hitting Leaders: Through the first eight games, the Brockport bats are led by the duo of Maeve Brannigan and Aubrey Ennis. Brannigan is hitting .375 with 3 RBIs, and a .412 on base percentage. Ennis is rocking a .333 average, .533 slugging, and .545 on base. She has three doubles so far to go with a pair of runs batted in and six walks. Caitlyn Dailey matches Brannigan with a team-high six hits and has two runs batted in to go with a .261 average.

Numbers From the Circle: The Golden Eagle pitching staff saw some promising pitching in the first week from its young core. Freshman Liana DeValder (1-1, 1 S) is currently leading the staff with a 3.61 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 19 strikeouts through 21.1 innings. Classmate Makenna Hart (0-2, 1 S) owns a 4.90 ERA and a 2.20 WHIP through 10.0 innings. Second-year pitcher Colleen Davis (1-2) totaled 13.0 innings of work and has six strikeouts so far with a 2.92 WHIP.

Next Weekend: More E8 softball is on the schedule for next weekend. Up first is Brockport hosting Alfred for its Morgan's Message Game on Friday, April 3rd. Then the team travels to Houghton the next day for another conference doubleheader.
