Women's Lacrosse Hosts Hartwick for Youth Lacrosse Day

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Brockport women's lacrosse team opens Empire 8 Conference play on Saturday, March 28, hosting Hartwick College at 1 p.m. in celebration of Youth Lacrosse Day.

The Hawks enter Saturday's contest with a 1-6 overall record and a 0-1 mark in conference play. Last season marked the first meeting between Hartwick and Brockport since 2013, with the Golden Eagles earning a 17-5 victory.

Non-Conference Play 

The Golden Eagles concluded non-conference play with a 4-3 record, highlighted by several close and competitive wins.

On March 4, Brockport earned a 9-8 overtime victory against the University of Rochester. In a back-and-forth contest, Rochester forced overtime late in regulation. With 1:05 remaining in the extra period, Karaline McCarthy capitalized on a man-up opportunity, breaking through the defense to secure the win.

Brockport followed with another dramatic performance on March 11, rallying for a 9-8 comeback victory over Union. Trailing 7-3 in the fourth quarter, Hailey Lewkovich, Tristan Davis, Journey Naab, Alivia Cross, and Emily Schiffer each found the back of the net to tie the game. With just 10 seconds remaining, Cross delivered the game-winning goal to complete the comeback.

The Golden Eagles continued their success in overtime on March 14, defeating Oneonta, 11-10. After falling behind 7-2 early in the second quarter, Brockport responded with a strong comeback to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Trailing 10-9 late in the fourth quarter, Davis scored with 49 seconds remaining to force overtime. In the extra period, Lewkovich netted the game-winner to secure the victory.

Offensive Leaders

  • Hailey Lewkovich leads the team with 18 goals and ranks second with 19 points. Her 18 goals serve as the second most in the Empire 8 conference. 
  • Karaline McCarthy has recorded 14 goals and a team-high 12 assists for a team-leading 26 points. Ranking second in the conference in points and fifth in goals per game (2.0), McCarthy leads the conference with 33 draw controls. 
  • Tristan Davis has totaled 10 points on six goals and four assists.
  • Emily Schiffer has added eight points with six goals and two assists.

In goal, Arianna Reed has posted a 3-2 record with 56 saves and a .505 save percentage this season. Reed is the only goalie in the Empire 8 conference with a save percentage over 50%.

Brockport will hit the road for a pair of games next week, traveling to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, April 1, at 4 p.m., followed by a matchup at SUNY Poly on Saturday, April 4, at 12 p.m.
