POTSDAM, NY - Following a physical home opener against No. 16 Cortland, the SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team returns to the road this Saturday, March 7th. The Golden Eagles (0-3) travel to Potsdam, NY for a matchup against the Potsdam Bears, as they look to secure their first win of the early season. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
Brockport hosted a powerhouse Cortland squad last Saturday at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The Golden Eagles showed early spark, jumping out to a 2-1 lead behind goals from
Michael Dowden and
Daniel Stiles. However, the Red Dragons' depth and transition game eventually took over, leading to a 24-7 final score.
The offense saw flashes of rhythm, led by
Marc Zappulla and
Daniel Stiles, who each netted two goals. Dowden also put together a three-point afternoon, while
Mason Michel and
Daniel Wright added to the tally. In the faceoff department,Â
Luke Hopkins and
Nicolas Ange battled to secure 11 draw wins, providing the Golden Eagles with additional possessions.
Despite the result, junior goaltender
Jared Kulik continued his strong start, showcasing consistency between the pipes for the Green and Gold. Following his Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier in the season, Kulik turned in a strong effort against the No. 16 Red Dragons. Under a relentless barrage of shots, the Amherst native recorded 24 saves, keeping the Golden Eagles competitive through the first half.
Scouting Potsdam
Brockport holds an 11-10 record against Potsdam,  winning four of the last six meetings in the head-to-head series. The last time these two programs met, the Golden Eagles secured an 11-10 OT thriller victory at home. The Green and Gold will look to replicate that winning result on the road this Saturday to get into the win column for the first time this season.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will continue road play next week with a non-conference matchup against Oswego on Wednesday, March 11th, at 4Â p.m.
