BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team returns home to A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field this week for a high-stakes Empire 8 clash. The Golden Eagles are set to host No. 7 St. John Fisher University on Wednesday, April 15, with faceoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
Previous Action
Brockport (2-10, 2-3 Empire 8) is looking to bounce back after dropping a conference road contest to Utica University, 12-8, this past Saturday. Despite a slow start that saw the Pioneers take an early 5-0 lead, the Golden Eagles found their rhythm in the middle frames.
A spirited third-quarter surge, highlighted by a man-up score and unassisted tallies from
Daniel Wright, brought Brockport within one goal at 7-6. Wright finished the day with a team-high four goals on 16 shots. Defensively,
Austin Thornhill anchored the unit with seven ground balls, while
Cody Whittaker won nine faceoffs. Although the Green and Gold held a 42-33 advantage in ground balls and a sharp 88.2 percent clear rate, they were unable to complete the comeback in the final period.
Empire 8 Leaders
The Golden Eagles' offense continues to be paced by a pair of prolific playmakers who rank among the best in the conference.
Daniel Wright has been a high-volume threat all season, ranking 9th in the Empire 8 in shots per game (6.5). He leads the Brockport squad in both points (26) and goals (9) while ranking third on the team in assists (7).
Currently ranking 16th in the Empire 8 in assists per game (1.0),
Daniel Stiles has been the primary distributor for the Green and Gold. Stiles leads the team in assists (11) and ranks second in total points (21). His versatility is also on display as he ranks fourth on the team in both goals (10) and ground balls (20).
Scouting the Cardinals
St. John Fisher enters Wednesday's contest as the No. 7 ranked team in the country and the No. 1 team in the region. The Cardinals boast an impressive 12-1 overall record and are riding a six-game winning streak, most recently defeating SUNY Poly in a 12-10 victory.
The Golden Eagles are looking to flip the script on recent history; Brockport has not secured a victory over the Cardinals since 2016, when they took a 16-9 win on the road. Entering Wednesday, the team aims to break a decade-long drought against the Cardinals.
Up Next
Following the mid-week battle with St. John Fisher, the Golden Eagles will remain at home, as they host a non-conference matchup against Penn College on Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m.
