Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Pair of Home Contests This Weekend

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team will remain at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field this weekend for a pair of home matchups. The Golden Eagles will first welcome Penn College for a non-conference battle on Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m., followed by an Empire 8 conference matchup against Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m.

Last Outing

The Golden Eagles (2-11, 2-4 E8) are coming off a tough home contest against No. 7 ranked St. John Fisher this past Wednesday. Despite a strong defensive showing, Brockport fell to the Cardinals, 12-4.

Daniel Stiles led the offensive effort with three points on two goals and an assist, while Marc Zappulla added a goal and a helper. Rorick Perry also found the back of the net for the Green and Gold. Defensively, Jared Kulik was stellar in the cage, turning away 15 shots, while Brady Donaghy recorded a team-high four caused turnovers. The Golden Eagles remained disciplined throughout the match, finishing 21-for-26 on clearing attempts.

Scouting Penn College

The Wildcats enter Friday's matchup with a 10-4 overall record and a 0-1 mark in the United East Conference. They most recently fell in a narrow 16-15 overtime matchup against Kean University. Since the inception of their program in 2021, this will mark the first-ever meeting between Brockport and Penn College.

The Wildcat offense is powered by sophomore Elliot Dotson, who leads the team in points (71) and assists (35), while tying for second in goals (36). Owen Kupsey provides the primary finishing touch for Penn's offense, leading the squad with 44 goals on the season.

A Look at Russell Sage

The Gators travel to Brockport with a 3-6 overall record and a 1-5 mark in Empire 8 play, currently sitting in the second-to-last seed in the conference standings. Russell Sage is looking to bounce back after an 18-4 loss to Utica in their last outing. Brockport holds a 1-0 all-time record against the Gators, having earned an 11-8 victory in their first meeting on April 19 of last season.

The Sage offense is led by Mame Diba, who holds team highs in goals (17) and points (20). Carson Pesce serves as the primary playmaker with a team-best six assists to go along with nine goals. Defensively, the Gators rely heavily on goalie Jordon Hankel, who leads the Empire 8 with 18.22 saves per game.

Up Next

Following the weekend home stand, Brockport will hit the road for a midweek conference matchup. The Golden Eagles will travel to face Nazareth University on Wednesday, April 22, at 4 p.m.
