Brockport, NY – The women's lacrosse team returns home this week for a pair of Empire 8 matchups, beginning with Alfred University on Wednesday, April 8, in celebration of Professor Appreciation Day. The Golden Eagles will then host Utica University on Saturday, April 11, honoring their senior class while welcoming back former players for Alumni Day.
Last Week
Brockport hit the road for two contests last week, traveling to SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday and SUNY Poly on Saturday. The Golden Eagles dropped a 14-7 decision to the Knights before rebounding with a commanding 21-2 victory over the Wildcats.
Hailey Lewkovich delivered a standout performance against SUNY Poly, totaling eight points on five goals and three assists. Emily Schiffer followed with five points (two goals, three assists), while Karaline McCarthy added three goals. Tristan Davis and Amanda Evans each recorded two goals and one assist, and Journey Naab, Ciara Pogue, and Payton Tyszka contributed two goals apiece.
In goal, Arianna Reed and Marion Wheeler split time, with Reed making three saves and Wheeler adding one.
Empire 8 Leaders
Ten games into the season, Hailey Lewkovich, Arianna Reed, and Karaline McCarthy rank among the Empire 8 leaders in multiple statistical categories. Lewkovich paces the conference with 31 goals and ranks second with 36 points. McCarthy has also been a key contributor, ranking sixth in points (31), tied for eighth in goals (19), and tied for sixth in assists (12), while leading the conference with 45 draw controls.
Between the pipes, Reed has been a standout, posting a conference-best .517 save percentage, the only Empire 8 goalkeeper above 50 percent, and a 9.41 goals-against average, which ranks third in the league.
Scouting Alfred
Alfred enters Wednesday's matchup with a 5-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in conference play. Jordan Genant leads the Saxons with 25 points (nine goals, 16 assists), while Morgan Wise tops the team with 16 goals. Kylee Bedette has added 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists), and Sydney Angelo has contributed 19 points on 15 goals and four assists.
A Look at Utica
Utica brings a 6-3 overall record and a 2-1 Empire 8 mark into the week. Maria Stuhlman and Alyssa Specchio lead the offense with 28 points each. Stuhlman has recorded 20 goals and eight assists, while Specchio has tallied 17 goals and a team-high 11 assists. Jessica Marciano has added 18 goals, and Bella Kolb has contributed 15.
Last season, Brockport swept Utica in two meetings, earning a 20-9 regular-season victory followed by a 16-2 win in the first round of the Empire 8 Championships.
