The Select Bowl is one of the premier evaluation events in the country, bringing together elite flag football players from across the United States to compete before USA Football national team evaluators. For Gerber, the invitation represents the latest achievement in a remarkable year that saw her establish herself as one of the top players in collegiate flag football.
A driving force behind Brockport's success during its inaugural varsity campaign, Gerber helped lead the Golden Eagles to an Empire 8 Conference Championship and a 9-4 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in conference play. Serving as the focal point of the Brockport offense, she showcased her versatility as both a passer and runner, eclipsing 1,000 yards in both passing and rushing while accounting for a team-best total touchdown output.
Gerber saved some of her best performances for the season's biggest moments. In Brockport's Empire 8 Championship victory over Elmira, she delivered a dominant performance by rushing for 260 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 127 yards and three additional scores. Her outstanding effort earned her Empire 8 Conference Championship Game Most Valuable Player honors and cemented her place among the most impactful players in the conference.
Before earning her Select Bowl invitation, Gerber participated in the USA Football Adult Talent ID Camp on May 3 at El Segundo High School in California. The camp provided athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills and compete for advancement within USA Football's national team development pathway. Gerber's performance during the evaluation process helped secure her place among the select group of athletes invited to compete at the Select Bowl.
Head coach Charrise Everett reflected on Gerber's achievement and what it means for both the student-athlete and the program.
"Seeing Megan earn this opportunity is incredibly rewarding," Everett said. "At the beginning of the season, we talked about her goals and aspirations, and now she's taking another step toward making them a reality. She has worked tirelessly to put herself in this position and is representing Brockport, her family, and our entire community with pride. I couldn't be happier for her, and I'm excited to watch her compete on one of the biggest stages in the sport."
At the Select Bowl, Gerber will compete against some of the nation's top young talent for a coveted spot on the USA Olympic Flag Football Team. Athletes selected through the event will continue through USA Football's national team pipeline and have the opportunity to advance to the Olympic Trials in Spring 2027 as the United States prepares for flag football's debut on the Olympic stage at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
As Brockport continues to build momentum in one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, Gerber's invitation to the Select Bowl serves as a testament to both her individual accomplishments and the program's growing national reputation. Her participation places Brockport among the institutions represented at one of the sport's most prestigious talent identification events and further underscores the bright future ahead for the Golden Eagles.
