BROCKPORT, NY — The Brockport field hockey team offense exploded early, striking three times in the opening half to power a 3-1 home opener victory over John Carroll University on Tuesday at Dr. Linda Arena Field. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 1-0 on the young season.
Brockport wasted no time establishing tempo on their home turf. Just four minutes into the opening quarter,
Elise Brady found the back of the cage off an assist from
Terralyn McLaughlin at the 4:09 mark to put the Green and Gold up 1-0. Brockport kept the pressure on, capitalizing again less than three minutes later when
Cassidy Pado finished a feed from
Emily Nestor at 6:26 to extend the lead to two.
John Carroll (0-1) managed to cut into the deficit early in the third quarter when Mary Wymard converted a pass from Francesca Rao at 33:01. However, the Golden Eagles' backline stood tall to shut down any further comeback attempt.
Emily Nestor provided a critical defensive save on the goal line late in the fourth quarter to preserve the two-goal cushion.
Goalkeeper
Lauren Mastromarco was solid between the pipes for Brockport, turning aside nine shots on goal across all 60 minutes to anchor the defense. Brockport finished with 15 total shots, including six on goal, and earned three penalty corners in the victory.
Up Next: Following the home opener victory, the Golden Eagles will head to Huntingdon, PA for a weekend doubleheader. Brockport will take on Allegheny College on Saturday, September 5th at 3 p.m., followed by a matchup against host Juniata College on Sunday, September 6th at 12 p.m.
