Brockport, NY — The Brockport women's soccer team ties with Dickinson, 1-1. Coming off a 3-1 win over Buffalo State, the Golden Eagles fought hard for a draw in their home opener. With this, the team moves to a 2-1-1 record, and Dickinson to 3-0-2.
Dickinson, coming in with an undefeated record, had the Golden Eagles facing a hard game to win. Both teams persevered throughout the game, with Dickinson leading with 17 shots and Brockport with 7.
Dickinson opened the scoring at 37:57 when Anna Bitsko found the back of the net off an assist from Mamady Bangoura. The Red Devils carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime after outshooting Brockport 10-3 in the opening 45 minutes.
Emily McCane kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance, making four saves in the first half.
Brockport responded with increased offensive pressure in the second half, earning two corner kicks and putting four shots toward the Dickinson goal. The Golden Eagle's persistence paid off in the 83rd minute, as
McKenna Slate scored to bring the score to 1-1. Just moments before Slate's shot,
Parker Graham hit the post, keeping the pressure on Dickinson's defense.
McCane made five saves over the full 90 minutes, while Brockport finished with seven total shots, including four on goal. Dickinson held a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but the Golden Eagles' late push allowed them to leave the field with a point. The draw moves Brockport to 3-1-1 on the season.
