Brockport, NY - The women's soccer team fought back from the halftime deficit with three goals in the second half against Oneonta, 3-1. With the victory, the Golden Eagles improved to 4-1-1 on the season, while Oneonta fell to 1-3-1.
Oneonta struck first in the ninth minute, as Dominique DiOrio found the back of the net off an assist from Gianna Hanner to give the Red Dragons an early 1-0 advantage.
Brockport looked to respond throughout the remainder of the opening half, but Oneonta's defense held the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard. Oneonta carried its 1-0 lead into halftime despite Brockport generating several opportunities, including a shot from Marisa Closson that was saved by Oneonta goalkeeper Emily Hardison.
The Golden Eagles came out of halftime with renewed pressure and quickly turned the match around. In the 55th minute, Kaitlyn Spring had a long shot from midfield to put them on the board, 1-1. Just over a minute later, Brockport took its first lead of the afternoon. McKenna Slate scored in the 56th minute off an assist from Sophia Brooks, putting the Golden Eagles ahead 2-1.
Brockport continued to control the momentum, with Amelia Breton nearly adding to the lead when her shot struck the crossbar in the 63rd minute. Breton eventually found the back of the net in the 81st minute, scoring off an assist from Parker Graham to give Brockport a 3-1 advantage.
The Golden Eagles' defense held strong over the final minutes as Brockport secured the 3-1 comeback victory.
Brockport finished the match with 14 shots, including four on goal, while Oneonta recorded 20 shots and 12 shots on target. Despite the difference in shots, goalkeeper Emily McCane came up with a standout performance, making 11 saves over 90 minutes to keep the Golden Eagles in the match.
Breton led Brockport with four shots and one goal, while Slate recorded three shots and one goal. Graham added three shots and an assist, while Brooks contributed an assist. Spring finished with one shot and a game-tying goal.
The Golden Eagles also held the advantage in the second half, outshooting Oneonta 11-11 after trailing 9-3 in shots during the opening 45 minutes. Brockport earned its lone corner kick of the match in the 50th minute.
