Brockport, NY - The women's soccer team opened Empire 8 Conference play with a dominant 2-0 victory over SUNY Poly this afternoon at Wildcat Field. The Golden Eagles improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-0 in Empire 8 play, while SUNY Poly fell to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
Brockport controlled the action from the opening whistle, outshooting the Wildcats 28-5 and putting 19 shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks while limiting SUNY Poly to just two shots on target throughout the afternoon.
Parker Graham put Brockport on the board in the 21st minute, scoring her first goal of the season to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Brockport continued to pressure the Wildcats throughout the opening half, generating 14 shots while taking a one-goal lead into halftime.
Brockport continued its offensive pressure in the second half, firing another 14 shots. In the 69th minute, Amelia Breton doubled the Golden Eagles' advantage with her third goal of the season, converting a penalty kick to make it 2-0.
Breton led Brockport with seven shots and four shots on goal, while McKenna Slate added five shots, all of which were on target. Graham recorded three shots and three shots on goal, including the opening goal. Brianna Marino added three shots and two shots on goal.
The Brockport defense held strong throughout the remainder of the match, allowing just five total shots and two shots on goal. Cameryn Childs recorded two saves over 90 minutes to earn the shutout. SUNY Poly goalkeeper Skylar Blackwell made 13 saves as Brockport consistently tested the Wildcats' defense.
