Brockport, NY- The Brockport Women's Tennis team returns home for Empire 8 matches against Nazareth on Friday, September 18th at 4pm, and Alfred on September 19th at 1pm.
Last Week Recap: Brockport split a pair of Empire 8 contests last weekend, opening conference play with a 6-1 victory at Houghton before falling to Oswego, 6-1, in the home opener. The Golden Eagles opened the season with a 7-0 sweep at Fredonia and now sit at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in Empire 8 play.
Strong Start: Brockport has received strong contributions from its freshman roster through the opening three matches. Samantha Basovsky and Mackenzie King have teamed up at No. 2 doubles, earning victories in their first two matches together, including a 6-0 win at Fredonia and a 6-2 victory against Oswego. King has also picked up singles victories at both No. 3 and No. 2 singles, while Basovsky has earned a win at No. 4 singles.
Players to Watch: Sophomore Katie Tabor has been a consistent performer early in the season, posting a perfect 2-0 record at No. 6 singles, including a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Oswego. Freshmen Samantha Basovsky and Mackenzie King have also made an immediate impact, combining for a 2-0 record at No. 2 doubles while each earning a singles victory during Brockport's opening 7-0 sweep of Fredonia. At No. 1 doubles, Leah Banes and Cara Vasile have picked up a win this season and will look to continue their strong play at the top of the lineup.
Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers enter Friday's Empire 8 matchup with a 2-0 overall and 2-0 conference record, opening the season with back-to-back 7-0 victories over Houghton and Alfred. Nazareth swept all three doubles matches and all six singles contests against Houghton, highlighted by straight-set singles wins from Anna Spencer, Victoria Cioni and Paige Masrouri. The Golden Flyers then defeated Alfred, 6-1, on Sept. 11. Brockport will look to end a four-match losing streak against Nazareth, with the Golden Eagles' last win in the series coming in 2018.
Scouting Alfred: The Saxons enter Saturday's matchup with a 1-4 overall record and 1-2 mark in Empire 8 play. Alfred opened the season with a narrow 4-3 loss to Oneonta before responding with a 7-0 sweep of Utica. The Saxons then dropped a 6-1 decision to Nazareth and back-to-back 7-0 matches against Geneseo and Fredonia. Alfred's most recent conference loss to Geneseo saw the Knights sweep all three doubles matches and all six singles contests.
Coming Up – The Golden Eagles will stay on their court to compete against Hartwick on Tuesday, September 22nd at 4pm in their Empire 8 conference matchup.
