Brockport, NY- The women's tennis team battled this afternoon in their Empire 8 matchup but ultimately fell to Nazareth University, 4-3, at home. The Golden Flyers remain undefeated at 3-0, while Brockport moves to 2-1 in the season.
Brockport opened the afternoon with a strong showing in doubles play, securing wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the early advantage. Samantha Basovsky and Mackenzie King earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles over Victoria Cioni and Elizabeth Adamson, while Gianna Masker and Kathleen Rogers followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles against Paige Masrouri and Lia Ferro. Nazareth earned the point at No. 1 doubles, as Anna Spencer and Lily Brady defeated Cara Vasile and Leah Banes, 6-4.
With Brockport leading 2-1 heading into singles play, Nazareth responded by taking the first four completed singles matches. Brady defeated Vasile, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while Spencer posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Banes at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Mackenzie King pushed Victoria Cioni to three sets after taking the first set 7-6, but Cioni ultimately prevailed, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Masrouri then defeated Basovsky, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles to secure the match for Nazareth.
Brockport closed the afternoon with a pair of singles victories. Masker continued her strong day with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Adamson at No. 5 singles, while Katie Tabor completed the Highlanders' singles wins with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory over Aiyanah Reed at No. 6.
Despite the 4-3 final, Brockport claimed four individual wins in the afternoon, including two doubles victories and two singles victories.
