BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory (28-26, 24-26, 25-18, 25-19) over RIT at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym for Homecoming Weekend. With the win, the Golden Eagles sit at 5-3 on the season.
Brockport out-killed the Tigers 39 to 35 on the night, powered by outside hitter
Luba Butcher, who posted a team-high 9 kills, 3 solo blocks, and 6 digs.
Kaylee Dickerson-Holly added 7 kills, while
Ellie Cusmano and
Ana Parella chipped in 6 kills apiece. Parella also made a major impact behind the service line, dropping 4 of Brockport's 10 total aces. Setters
Kaitlyn Jewett and
Ava Baty directed the offense, dishing out 19 and 12 assists respectively, with Jewett adding 3 aces.
On defense, libero
Elsie Logan anchored the back row with a match-high 18 digs, supported by 9 digs each from
Grace Ippoliti and
Alyssa Guzman. Middle blocker
Maddy Howell led the front-row effort with 1 solo block and 4 block assists.
The opening frame was a slugfest featuring 13 tie scores and 5 lead changes before Brockport edged out a 28-26 win on 12 set kills. After RIT leveled the match by taking a tight 26-24 second set, Brockport regained control in the third, hitting a match-best .184 percentage to win 25-18. The Golden Eagles closed out the match in the fourth frame by forcing RIT into 11 attack errors and holding them to a -.094 hitting percentage.
