Brockport, NY — The women's tennis team battled Empire 8 in a matchup but fell to Hartwick College, 5-2. The Golden Eagles picked up a doubles victory and two singles wins in the conference matchup.
Brockport opened the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles, as
Gianna Masker and
Kathleen Rogers defeated Ciara McManus and Elise Beauharnois, 6-1. Hartwick answered at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point. Samantha Lantzy and Tehani Courte defeated
Cara Vasile and
Leah Banes, 6-2, while Autumn Millington and Gianna Leggieri earned a 7-6 victory over
Samantha Basovsky and
Mackenzie King
The Golden Eagles continued to battle in singles play, earning two victories in the final two spots of the lineup. At No. 5 singles, Masker delivered a straight-set victory over Millington, taking the opening set 6-4 before closing out the match with a dominant 6-0 second set.
Katie Tabor followed with another straight-set win at No. 6 singles. Tabor controlled the match from the start, defeating Sasha Garcia 6-0, 6-3 to give Brockport its second singles point of the afternoon.
Brockport also put together several competitive performances throughout the top half of the lineup. At No. 2 singles,
Leah Banes battled Courte through three sets after dropping the first set, 6-2. Banes responded with a 6-2 second-set victory before Courte ultimately secured the deciding set, 6-4. At No. 4 singles,
Samantha Basovsky took the opening set against Beauharnois, 6-2, and forced a third set after Beauharnois won the second in a tiebreak. Beauharnois eventually claimed the third set, 7-1.
Hartwick also earned victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, with Lantzy defeating Vasile, 6-0, 6-2, and Leggieri defeating King, 6-1, 6-1. With the result, Brockport moves to 3-3 overall on the season, while Hartwick improves to 5-3.
