Brockport, NY – The women's tennis team battled St. John Fisher University, falling to the Cardinals, 5-2, in an Empire 8 matchup. The Golden Eagles earned one doubles victory and two singles wins in the conference contest.
Brockport opened doubles play with a victory at No. 2, as Samantha Basovsky and Mackenzie King defeated Lily Miller and Emma Mihajlovic, 6-4. St. John Fisher responded with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point. Cara Vasile and Leah Banes fell to A. Colafranceschi and Isabella Busch, 6-3, at No. 1, while Kathleen Rogers and Gianna Masker dropped a 6-3 decision to Maura Matthews and Mady Etter at No. 3.
The Golden Eagles continued to battle in singles play, earning victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Masker picked up a straight-set victory at No. 5, defeating Etter, 6-4, 7-5. Tabor followed with another straight-set win at No. 6, taking down Anna Exford, 6-2, 6-4.
Brockport also put together several competitive performances throughout the top half of the lineup. At No. 3 singles, King battled Busch through three sets, winning the second set, 6-1, after dropping the opener, 6-3. Busch ultimately secured the deciding set in a tight 8-6 finish.
At No. 2 singles, Banes battled Colafranceschi through two competitive sets before falling, 7-5, 6-3. Basovsky also competed at No. 4 singles, falling to Mihajlovic, 6-4, 6-4, while Vasile dropped her No. 1 singles match to Miller, 6-0.
With the result, Brockport moves to 3-4 overall on the season and continues its Empire 8 schedule.
