ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Brockport field hockey team kicked off Empire 8 conference play with an explosive offensive performance, dominating Elmira College 7-2 on Wednesday evening at Campus Field. The victory marks the Golden Eagles' fourth straight win as they improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in E8 play.
Brockport wasted no time establishing control in the opening minutes.
Emily Nestor put the Green and Gold on the board early at the 2:27 mark to notch the game's first goal.
Penelope Schalck followed up shortly after with a strike at 4:46, and
Alexis Penree made it 3-0 in favor of Brockport at 6:59. Elmira managed to respond before the break, netting goals from Madison Fleming and Haley Henderson to pull within one at 3-2 heading into halftime.
After a scoreless second quarter, Brockport reasserted its dominance late in the third period.
Elise Brady sparked the second-half surge with an unassisted tally at 44:36 to extend the cushion to 4-2.
The Golden Eagles put the game completely out of reach in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Soaring Eagles 7-0 in the final frame.
Terralyn McLaughlin found the back of the cage at 54:15 to push the advantage to 5-2. Brady then capped off a stellar night by completing a second-half hat trick, converting a feed from
Cassidy Pado at 58:17 before striking once more at 59:51 to seal the 7-2 victory.
Brady led the Brockport attack with three goals on the night, while goalkeeper
Lauren Mastromarco earned the victory in cage with three saves. In total, Brockport outshot Elmira 17-6, including a 16-5 margin in shots on goal.
