BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The SUNY Brockport women's soccer team earned a 4-1 victory over Keuka on Saturday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field, celebrating Youth Soccer Day and the Morgan's Message Mental Health Awareness Game. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-1-2 overall and 2-0-1 in Empire 8 play.
Brockport controlled the action early, generating five shots and taking five corner kicks in the opening half.
McKenna Slate put the Golden Eagles on the board in the 24th minute, scoring off an assist from
Kaitlyn Spring to give Brockport a 1-0 lead. Keuka responded in the 30th minute when Bailey Cook netted an unassisted equalizer to tie the match. Brockport generated additional opportunities, including a shot off the crossbar by
Dinah Gifford and a save on Sofia Starrow, but the teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
The Golden Eagles came out aggressive in the second half, taking full control of the match. Just over a minute into the second period,
Amelia Breton restored Brockport's lead, converting a setup from Spring in the 47th minute. Breton struck again in the 59th minute, scoring her second goal of the match unassisted to extend the advantage to 3-1.
Brockport sealed the victory in the 86th minute when
Madyson Whalen scored off an assist from
Sophia Brooks to make it 4-1.
Breton led Brockport's attack with three shots, two shots on goal, and two goals on the afternoon. Spring delivered two assists, while Slate,
Parker Graham, and
Kaitlyn Spring each added shots on goal.
The Brockport defense held Keuka to seven total shots and five shots on target throughout the contest. Goalkeeper
Emily McCane recorded two saves over nearly 74 minutes of play.
Cameryn Childs entered in relief for the final 16 minutes, stopping both shots she faced to close out the victory. Keuka goalkeeper Payton Malec finished with three saves.
Coming Up: The Golden Eagles will head to Albany on Saturday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. against Russell Sage for another Empire 8 conference game.
