HUNTINGDON, PA — The Brockport field hockey team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to host Juniata College on Sunday afternoon at Knox Stadium. Despite generating heavy pressure on attacking penalty corners throughout the afternoon, the Golden Eagles were unable to break through, moving to 2-1 on the season.
Both squads fought through a scoreless opening half, with Brockport outshooting Juniata 6-4 across the first 30 minutes. Netminder
Lauren Mastromarco and the Golden Eagle backline turned away two shots on cage to keep the Eagles level entering halftime.
Juniata struck for the game's lone tally early in the third quarter. Off a penalty corner sequence at the 36:13 mark, Gabby Campbell found the back of the cage to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
Brockport pushed hard for the equalizer in the second half, earning six of their 12 total penalty corners in the final two periods.
Terralyn McLaughlin led the attack with four shots, while
Elise Brady added two shots on goal. However, Juniata goalkeeper Kara Stringfellow kept the Green and Gold off the board with six saves on the day.
Mastromarco logged all 60 minutes in the cage for Brockport, while defender
Carleigh Colvin came up with a defensive save in the third quarter to keep the deficit at one. Brockport outshot Juniata 12-9 and held a 12-8 advantage in penalty corners overall.
