Sophomore midfielder Sarah Lawson (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) has made a habit of setting up her teammates on The College at Brockport’s women’s soccer team. During Friday’s 1-0 win over Fredonia, Lawson became the school’s all-time, single-season assists leader to earn Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week honors.
Lawson set up Brockport's only goal in the 30th minute of the home win over Fredonia to become the school's single-season, all-time assists with her 13th helper. Lawson snapped a tie with Ashley Ewin (2006) and Jill Neidlinger (2007), who each had 12 in a season, to become the school’s record-setter.
On the record-setting assist, which came on a Jess Bush (Dryden, NY/Dryden) goal, Lawson sent a corner kick into the box that was cleared out and back to the corner of the field for Lawson. The midfielder then sent the ball back into the box for Bush, who converted her fifth goal of the season.
Lawson has netted three assists in a game twice this year, in wins against both Old Westbury and Keuka College, and she also had two assists in wins over St. John Fisher College and Potsdam. Lawson also leads the SUNYAC in assists, and her 13 assists are seven more than second-place.
