Rachel Malone (Fairport, NY/Fairport) of the women’s cross country team has been named The College at Brockport Female Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season after placing fourth at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Regional meet.
Malone posted a time of 22:01 at Genesee Valley Park, a mark that is tied for the second-best time in school history. Malone now owns the top five times in school history, including a time of 21:19.50 at the Oberlin Invite on Oct. 15 for the best mark in the record books.
The sophomore finished fourth overall at the Atlantic Regional and was the top State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) runner to cross the line. Malone finished 17 seconds ahead of SUNYAC champion Emily Cotey of Cortland.
With the fourth-place finish, Malone qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championship. The meet will take place at 11:00 am on Nov. 17 at Terre Haute, IN.
