Junior Eric Velez (Medina, NY/Medina) has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 9. Velez won a championship title during the John Summa Memorial Invitational at Baldwin Wallace University, helping Brockport’s Wrestling team capture second place.

At 133 pounds, Velez won three straight decisions on his way to the championship bout. He won the three matches by scores of 9-3, 11-5 and 7-2 before the final match.

Velez pinned his opponent in the championship with just six seconds remaining in the second period. The match was completed in 5:54.

Brockport placed second with a score of 131 points, second only to host Baldwin Wallace’s 159.5 points.

The Golden Eagles travel to Springfield, MA for the Western New England Duals on February 14. The dual starts at 10 am.
