Sophomore Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) tied a season-best in the pole vault during Friday afternoon’s Gator Invitational Outdoor Track and Field meet at Allegheny College. Ferrara is The College at Brockport’s Male Athlete of the Week.

Ferrara placed fourth with an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship-qualifying effort of 15 feet, five inches (4.70 meter), the sixth time in seven outdoor meets that Ferrara has eclipsed the ECAC qualifying standard.

Ferrara started off clearing 4.10 meters on his first attempt, cleared 4.25 meters on his second try, 4.40 on his third and 4.55 on his fourth attempt of the day. Ferrara then hit 4.70 meters on his fifth try of the meet to tie his season-best mark.

The Gator Invitational served as Brockport's final tune-up for the 2011 ECAC championships, which will take place Thursday and Friday at Moravian (PA) College.
