BOXSCORE

The College at Brockport's men's basketball team struggled offensively in the first half, staged a furious rally in the second half but still dropped a tough, 78-66 contest to Buffalo State Tuesday inside the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

Junior Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) scored 16 of his team-leading23 points in the second half for the Golden Eagles (7-9 overall, 5-4 SUNYAC). The Golden Eagles trailed by 28, 54-26 with 13:09 left in the game before Brockport went on a frantic 29-10 run to close the deficit to 64-55.

To spark the Golden Eagle run, freshman Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) and Williams each hit three-pointers and Williams added a fast-break layup to cap an 8-0 run. Ivy finished with 11 points.

Buffalo State would respond with a '3' before freshman Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) and senior Greg Schiefen (Corning, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) each drained big three-pointers to slice the deficit to nine, 64-55 with 4:08 left.

Sophomore Jake Simmons (Rochester, NY/School of the Arts), one of the SUNYAC's leading scorers at 19.4 points per game, scored a game-high 30 points against Brockport.

Brockport trailed 32-18 at halftime, and Buffalo State (10-5, 5-4 SUNYAC) used a 13-0 run early in the second half to pull away.

Junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) made a layup to give Brockport a 5-4 lead with 17:31 remaining in the first half, but the Bengals battled back and put together a 24-8 run and led 28-13 with 5:04 left in the half.

The Golden Eagles made only 8 of their first 34 shots and missed 8 of their first 10 three-pointers while allowing the Bengals to make 21 of their first 45 shots, including 5 of their first 13 three-pointers.

Brockport returns to action at 8 p.m. Friday night when it hosts Geneseo (7-8, 1-7 SUNYAC) inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
