Nicole Horodyski Wins Uneven Bars in Gymnastics Opener

Golden Eagles fall to Cortland in the first meet of the season

Nicole Horodyski won top honors on the Uneven bars at the season-opening Cortland meet

Senior Nicole Horodyski (Gainesville, FL/Buchholtz) recorded a team-leading score of 9.25 to win the uneven bars event for The College at Brockport Gymnastics team as the Golden Eagles opened the season against Cortland in the annual Freshman Classic Sunday in Cortland.

Brockport (0-1) lost the final team score 178.375-170.575.

Horodyski was the top individual scorer with her 9.25 score on the bars while freshman Samantha Spaid (Green, OH/Green) scored a 9.05 on the balance beam for fourth place and Colleen Chahbazi(Flushing, MI/Flushing) recorded a 9.00 on the balance beam to finish fifth.

“With the first meet of the year I was able to put everyone in the lineup and see how they performed,” said head coach John Feeney. “Everyone had a chance to compete and they were able to see where they are at this early point in the season. The team has a good idea now of what they need to work on and what we need to do to get ready for our next meet against Ithaca next weekend.”

Other top finishers for the Golden Eagles included sophomore Elizabeth Levy(Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) took fourth on the vault with an 8.95 score, senior Amy Taylor(Lockport, NY/Sacred Heart) was fourth on the uneven bars and freshman Heidi Beckerich (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) was fifth in the floor exercise event with an 8.8 score.
