The College at Brockport volleyball team earned one win in two matches, beating Oswego 3-1, as the Golden Eagles hosted the first day of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Pool Play on Friday.
Senior
Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) registered 29 kills and 25 digs in two matches, and fellow senior
Breanna Horton (Owego, NY/Owego) turned in 27 assists and 23 digs to lead the Golden Eagles (12-19, 2-4 SUNYAC) to a 1-1 finish on Friday.
In the first match, Brockport won the first two sets against Oswego, 25-16 and 25-14. The Lakers came back to win the third set, 27-25, before the Golden Eagles closed the match with a 25-21 decision in the fourth set. Nowak recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, and also smacked seven aces. Junior
Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) tacked on 13 digs.
Brockport fell short in its second match of the day, losing 3-1 to Geneseo. The Golden Eagles captured the first set, 25-23, but Geneseo won the next three sets, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-18. Nowak earned her second double-double of the day with 16 kills and 11 digs. Junior
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) finished the match with 36 assists.
“I thought we played incredible defense against Geneseo,” head coach Kelly Greapentrog said. “
Breanna Horton really stepped up for us with a career-high 19 digs.”

The Golden Eagles get back on the court at 10 am tomorrow to face Buffalo State, and finish the tournament with a 2 pm mach against Fredonia.
