Second-Half Goals Down Field Hockey

Freshman Abby Eschen scores for the Golden Eagles

Kasey Schreiner made 14 saves in the loss to Utica
BOXSCORE

Freshman Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) scored her second goal of the season in the second half but a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the second half led Utica College to a 5-1 victory over The College at Brockport Sunday afternoon in Utica.

The Golden Eagles (7-5) allowed just one goal in the first half as Utica (8-4) converted a penalty corner for the early 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Pioneers struck twice in the first three minutes of the period to extend the lead to 3-0.

Nine minutes into the period, Eschen picked up a rebound of a shot by Kelly-Ann Henry (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) and poked in the rebound to trim the lead to 3-1.

Three minutes later, Utica regained the three-goal advantage and then added a late goal for the final margin of victory.

“Despite the final score, we got a great effort in goal today by Kasey (Schreiner),” said head coach Andrea Zurlo. “She made several big saves and we used Amanda (DelBuono) late in the second half. Kasey had her season high in saves.”

Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) made 14 saves playing 52 minutes and Amanda Del Buono (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley) came on the for final 17 minutes and made one save for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport returns to action Friday, October 14 with a 4 pm game against Oneonta on the road.
