BOXSCORE

Freshman Jon Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) scored a career-high 18 points, but The College at Brockport's men's basketball team lost to Buffalo State 96-83 on Senior Night Tuesday inside the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.

Ivy scored 15 first-half points for the Golden Eagles (12-11 overall, 10-6 SUNYAC), who trailed 43-36 at halftime. The deficit grew to as many as 18, 59-41, with 13:28 remaining as Buffalo State opened the second half on a 16-7 run.
Senior Greg Schiefen (Corning, NY/Elmira Notre Dame) and junior Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) hit back-to-back three-pointers, sophomore Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) got a steal and Williams made a layup for an 8-0 run as Brockport clawed within 62-49.

The Golden Eagles trimmed the deficit to 10 on several occasions in the second half, the last time coming after Ivy buried a '3' and Williams made a pair of free throws as Brockport got within 78-68. The Bengals answered back by hitting four consecutive free throws, and a layup from Chris Cartwright (game-high 29 points) pushed the lead to 84-68.

Brockport dropped just its third home game in 11 chances during the 2010-11 season.

Williams finished with a team-high 22 points, while Schiefen tied his season-high with six points and added 4 assists and 3 steals for Brockport. Klein added 9 points, 4 steals and 4 assists for the Golden Eagles were outrebounded 47-28 by the Bengals (16-6, 11-5).

Brockport fell behind 7-0 early and trailed by as many as 13, 34-21 in the first half, before Williams drained his first '3' of the half to spark a mini-run. Schiefen was then fouled shooting a three-pointer on Brockport's next possession, and converted his first three free throws of the year to close the deficit to 36-30.

A reverse layup from senior Andy Foote (Sidney, NY/Sidney) pulled Brockport within 36-32, but the Golden Eagles still trailed at halftime.

Before the game, Brockport honored six seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Green and Gold: Lantigua, McTigue, Foote, Schiefen, Zach Tousignant (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach), and Justin Kemp (Dansville, NY/Wayland-Cohocton).

The Golden Eagles played without junior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman), who is averaging 16 points per game. Green sustained an injury early in the second half of Saturday's loss at Oneonta.

The Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a pair of games on the road, facing Oswego at 8 p.m. Friday, and Cortland at 4 p.m. Saturday.

With two regular-season games remaining, Brockport is currently alone in fourth-place in the SUNYAC standings. The top eight teams qualify for the SUNYAC postseason tournament, which runs Feb. 22-26. Brockport has clinched a first-round home game Feb. 22 against an opponent to be determined.
