Gymnasts Fall on Senior Day

Seniors Kaitlin Dewey (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Amanda Giannone (Vestal, NY/Vestal) each recorded scores of at least 9.5 and Dewey won both the all-around and the floor exercise but Cortland posted a 187.725-186.925 victory over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon at the Tuttle North Gymnastics facility.

Dewey led all gymnasts with a 38.125 all around score and also posted an impressive 9.825 score on her floor routine to win the event, won the uneven bars with a 9.7 score and her 9.625 score on the vault was tied for the top score on the event for the day. Giannone posted a 9.55 on the balance beam and also scored a 9.4 on her floor routine for the Golden Eagles.

Fellow seniors Amy Taylor (Lockport, NY/Sacred Heart) and Nicole Horodyski (Gainesville, FL/Buchholtz) each scored over 9.0 on events for Brockport. Taylor had a 9.4 on the uneven bars and Horodyski posted a 9.1 with her routine on the same event.

“I was very happy with the performance of our seniors,” said head coach John Feeney. “(Kaitlin) Dewey and (Amanda) Giannone had great days for us. All five seniors not only did well for us today but have been such a great group over the past four years.”

Senior Chrissy Scaffidi (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) recorded a season-high 9.025 on the vault.

Sophomore Elizabeth Levy (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) finished third in the floor exercise with a 9.675 and also scored over 9.0 with a 9.25 vault, a 9.45 bars and a 9.525 score on the balance beam. Her all-around score of 37.900 was third overall.

In vaulting, Jessica Rockafellow (Grand Blac, MI/Grand Blanc) scored a 9.3 while Colleen Chahbazi (Flushing, MI/Flushing) and Taryn Kateridge (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) each scored 9.2. In the balance beam competition, Taylor Wierzba (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) scored a 9.35 and Kelcie Morris (Hagerstown, MD/Smithburg) added a 9.1 in the event.
