The College at Brockport women's volleyball team won one of four matches at the RIT Invitational this weekend, beating Medaille College in three games on Saturday. The Golden Eagles now stand 5-10 overall on the year.
Brockport kicked off the weekend against St. Lawrence University at 3 pm on Friday. Senior
Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) registered 17 kills and junior
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) tallied 31 assists in the contest.
However, the Saints won 3-1, with set scores of 27-25, 25-11, 22-25 and 25-22.
The Golden Eagles matched up with Nazareth on the same court directly following their loss to St. Lawrence. Junior
Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) had six kills in 10 attempts with no errors for a hitting percentage of .600. Nazareth won the match in three sets, 25-10, 25-21, 25-20.
On Saturday, Brockport started off the day with a 10 am match against Medaille. The Golden Eagles were led by Nowak and Jones, who combined for 18 kills and were both efficient. Brockport won 25-12, 25-15, 25-15. Junior
Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) recorded 17 digs in the victory.
In the last match of the weekend, Brockport lost 3-1 with set scores of 26-24, 17-25, 25-19 and 25-22 to Potsdam. Nowak notched 18 kills in the contest, and sophomore
Cassandra Inserillo (Stamfordville, NY/Stissing Mountain) had seven kills, while hitting .538. In the second set, Brockport tallied 18 kills with only two errors, hitting .471 in a very clean set.
Brockport takes the court again for SUNYAC Pool Play next weekend, which will be hosted by Buffalo State.
