Sophomore
Madison Buckley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored three minutes into the game and added two more goals in the final 10 minutes of action to lead The College at Brockport Field Hockey team to a convincing 5-1 victory over Morrisville in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
Buckley's first goal was scored off a scramble in front of the Morrisville (0-6 Overall, 0-3 SUNYAC) goal to give Brockport (4-3, 2-1) an early 1-0 lead with just 3:20 elapsed in the first half.
In the 19th minutes, Morrisville tied the score after the initial shot was blocked by the Brockport defense but the rebounded shot was put into the back of the cage to tie the score at 1-1.
Ten minutes later, freshman
Nicole Atkins (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) scored her first career goal giving the Golden Eagles the lead for good at 2-1.
In the second half, senior
Kelly-Ann Henry (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) added a goal and then assisted on Buckley's second goal of the game. Less than seven minutes later, Buckley completed the hat trick with her third goal of the game.
“Our passing was the key to the game,” said senior captain
Kelly-Ann Henry. “We worked out triangle passing to consistently move the ball down the field.”
Junior
Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) made five saves for the Golden Eagles.
