Sophomores Madison Buckley (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Jessica Blind (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) both tallied two goals in The College at Brockport field hockey team's season-opening 8-0 win over Bay Path College in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday.
Senior Jessica LoBue got the scoring started, with an assist from Blind. Blind would then score a goal of her own, an unassisted tally to double the lead. Buckley netted back-to-back goals to build the lead to 4-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles. Blind added another unassisted marker later in the game.
Also scoring for Brockport (1-0) was freshman Abby Eschen (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) on an assist from LoBue, sophomore Emily Corpin (Peterboro, NY/Morrisville Eaton) off a pass from junior Ashley Elmes (Hopewell Jnct., NY/John Jay) and sophomore Danielle Henck (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley), with an assist from sophomore Kaitie Kaminski (Eden, NY/Eden).
“It was nice to open up with a win,” head coach Andrea Zurlo said. “We played well as a team, and passing was great. Also, freshman Alyssa Mills played very well in her first collegiate contest.”
Junior Kasey Schreiner (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) earned the win in goal, although she didn't face any shots. The Golden Eagles rattled off 18 shots of their own in the contest.
Brockport hits the field in Massachusetts again Sunday to face host Springfield College at noon.
