John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) tied his career-high with 22 points including 16 in the first half to lead The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team to a convincing 91-66 victory over New Paltz Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the Hawks Center in New Paltz.
Brockport (6-8 Overall, 4-3 SUNYAC) won for the fourth time in the last five games to start the second semester schedule and will continue the current road trip with a 4 pm game at Oneonta Saturday.
In the first half, the teams traded leads for most of the first 10 minutes before New Paltz (6-8, 3-5) opened up a six-point advantage five minutes into the game. Brockport went on an 11-0 run to turn the score around and led by five at 17-12 three minutes later with senior
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) netting seven points in the run.
An Ivy layup with five minutes remaining in the first half gave Brockport a nine-point lead at 30-21 and then a pair of 3-pointers by Ivy near the end of the half stretched the lead to 13 points as the Golden Eagles took a 42-29 lead into the half time intermission. Brockport shot 57 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, New Paltz chipped away at the lead in the first few minutes of the half and trailed by nine at 47-38 with 17 minutes left. Brockport answered with a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to open up a 20-point advantage. With 10:23 to play,
Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison) converted a three-point play to give the Golden Eagles their largest lead of the game to that point with a 70-46 advantage and Brockport cruised to the victory.
Ivy scored 22 points to lead four players into double-figures scoring as Williams added 15 points while Jackson and senior
Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) each chipped in 12 points.
Dorian Hayden (East Northport, NY/Northport) came off the bench to grab a team-leading seven rebounds. Ivy was 9-for-12 from the field and hit both 3-point shots he attempted.
