Golden Eagles Open New Year With A Victory

Brockport gained an early lead and never looked back against St. Lawrence

Senior Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and junior Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison) both scored 17 points as The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team improved to 4-6 overall with a win at St. Lawrence Universty, 84-77.

Green and Jackson were two of four players to reach double figures as the Golden Eagles scored their most points in their last nine games. Joining Green and Jackson with double digit points were Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) with 16 and John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) with 10. Ivy and Jackson both grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Brockport jumped out early in the first half and never gave up their lead. St. Lawrence built a 5-3 lead just over two minutes into the first half. Green hit a jumper at the 15:56 mark to give Brockport a 7-5 advantage and never relinquished their lead. The Golden Eagles maintained a steady lead for the majority of the half. Jordan Major (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) helped Brockport reach their biggest edge of the half with a three-point shot with 8:14 remaining to put the Golden Eagles up by 14, 24-10. Brockport went into halftime ahead of St. Lawrence, 36-31.

The Golden Eagles built their lead back up to double digits three minutes into the half. A lay-up by Jackson with just over five minutes remaining gave Brockport their largest lead of the night at 16 as Brockport controlled the game 68-52. St. Lawrence attempted to keep the game respectable by scoring 15 points in the final two minutes. Brockport's free-throw shooting helped hold off the Saints by going 11-12 in the final 1:23 from the charity stripe. The Golden Eagles shot 20-26 overall from the line.

Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) contributed a career-high 11 assists on the night. The Golden Eagles shot exceptionally well from all over the court. The team shot 56.3 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from three-point range, both season-highs. The team's 10 three point field goals were also a season-high. Williams connected on four of his five three point shots.
