Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison Tech) scored a team-high 19 points against Oswego but The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team never held a lead in the game as the Golden Eagles fell 89-75. Brockport's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) record drops to 5-6 while the Lakers remain perfect in conference play at 12-0.
Oswego jumped out to an early lead in the first half, scoring the games' first six points. Brockport used an array of scorers to keep the game close. Seven different Golden Eagles reached the scoring column in the first 20 minutes. Oswego led 15-11 with just over ten minutes to play, but the Golden Eagles never got within five points for the remainder of the half. Brockport trailed by double-digits at halftime, 44-33.
The second half started off in Brockport's favor as the Golden Eagles scored seven of the first nine points to open the second session, but Oswego regained control. With Brockport trailing 47-40 at the 17:38 mark, Oswego started an 11-0 run that resulted in an 18 point lead, the largest of the day up to that point for the Lakers.
Oswego led 67-48 with 10:12 to play when Brockport created its' own 17-7 run.
Derek Klein (Valley Stream, NY/Long Island Lutheran) hit a layup at 4:51 brought the game to within 10, 75-65.
Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) refused to let the game slip away as he netted six points in less than a minute, including a free throw at the 1:33 mark to cut the deficit to eight, 79-71. Williams finished the game with 16 points and shot 9-10 from the free throw line.
Lance Legister (Staten Island, NY/Millbrook School) scored two quick buckets with under 1:16 to play, but Oswego's free throw shooting proved to be the eventual clincher. Oswego shot 10-12 from the line over the final 1:20 of the game. As a team, the Lakers shot 24-32 from the line while Brockport shot 21-27.
Brockport is now tied with Fredonia State in the conference standings. The Golden Eagles take on Oneonta State on Friday night and New Paltz on Saturday afternoon with both games being played at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym. New Paltz is currently behind Brockport in the standings with a 5-7 conference record.
