The College at Brockport Volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Houghton Invitational on Friday night. The Golden Eagles downed Alfred 3-0 in the first match and fell to St. Lawrence in the nightcap, 3-1.
Hannalee Fordyce (Amityville, NY/Copiage) paced the Golden Eagles with a Brockport season-best 24 digs against St. Lawrence.
In game one against the Saxons, the Golden Eagles swept all three sets by scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23. Brockport has now swept Alfred 3-0 both times the teams have met this year, including the initial meeting on Sept. 29 at the Brockport Invitational.
Jaime Snyder (Elmira, NY/Thomas Edison) led Brockport in both kills and digs. The senior finished with 11 kills and 13 digs in the match. Fordyce had another strong showing with seven kills and nine digs.
Liz Dates (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) served up two aces to go along with nine digs while
Chelsea Ross (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) added 12 digs of her own.
Danielle Sandbrook (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent) came through with five total blocks at the net, including three solo blocks against the Saxons.
Sarah Zelko (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) had another solid performance as the primary setter, registering 29 assists.
The Golden Eagles dropped their second match of the night to the Saints by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 26-28 and 25-22. As a team, Brockport served up 11 aces.
Fordyce had a big game against the Saints. To go along with her 24 digs, the first-year member of the Golden Eagles also had 10 kills and two aces. Ross had another solid performance as well, tying a personal season-high 16 digs to go with one ace.
Dates doubled her output from the earlier match, providing another two-ace, nine-dig performance. Snyder, Zelko, and
Jessica Greiner (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) each served up two aces against St. Lawrence. Snyder also had 11 kills and 12 digs.
Nicole Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) added seven kills
Zelko bettered her performance from earlier in the night as the senior recorded 33 assists. In her last three matches, Zelko has totaled 95 assists.
Head coach Bethany Schlegel thought the Golden Eagles put together a solid showing on day one of the invitational. “We had a more well-balanced attack tonight” said Schlegel, “especially against St. Lawrence.”
The Golden Eagles wrap up their regular season with two more matches at the Houghton Invitational. Brockport will take on Maine-Presque Isle at 12:00 pm and Houghton in the final match at 4:00 pm.
